What is the Sport Premium?
The Government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils' progress and participation in PE and school sport.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example, to:
- hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
- support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
- provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
- run sports activities with other schools
The planned use of the PE and school sport funding at Stonham Aspal CE VA Primary School will be extremely effective in improving and sustaining high quality PE and sports provision.
