English

In Year 6 we base each of our units of writing work on a high quality text. We write for the four purposes of writing- to entertain, to inform, to persuade and to discuss. These purposes are revisited across the year so the children are able to become familiar with each purpose and write with increased confidence and understanding.
In the first half of the autumn term, these are the units we will be covering;

Homework

Homework is given out on a Wednesday and is due in the following Wednesday. During each Wednesday afternoon, the children have the opportunity to go over their homework and discuss any elements they may need further support with.

In year 6, we would expect children to be reading for 20 minutes daily at home. This can be either independent reading or reading to an adult. This will help the children to develop a love of reading and also improve their fluency and comprehension skills.

Things to remember!

PE-is on a Monday morning with Mrs Bryant and a Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Edwards

For this half term, the children will change for PE and will need full PE kits in school (warmer clothing for outdoor PE ).
